
Positive lift is a term used in the development and function of aircraft. Wings dictate lift and speed as well as the handling of an airplane. An airplane has a difficult time reacting when it gets close to the speed of sound. Also, it has little time to react when the pilot decides it is necessary. Drag occurs when objects react to being compressed. In other words, compressibility drag makes a body long and thin. Wings are weak yet they perform multiple jobs that are required for flight. They lift, carry fuel and acts like structural beam to the fuselage of the airplane. If a wing is thin is will not work as a beam (or it will not work very WELL as one). Thick wings are best but they cannot weight down the aircraft.
Lift is created when there is a force that sucks the plane upwards. Also required is a force that sucks the air downwards and both forces must be equal and opposite from each other. This equal and opposite force is what Sir Isaac Newton explains in his laws.
